The Durif grape, also known as Petite Sirah, was originally created by Dr. François Durif in the 1800's. A French botanist, Francois Durif crossed the French grape Peloursin with Syrah. His intention was to produce a variety of grapes that would be resistant to powdery mildew. The resulting grape came to be known as Petite Sirah, and continues to be grown and celebrated in many regions throughout the world under both names.
